Work on site is progressing well with Block "B" handed over to NHH and occupied by new residents. Block "A", the second phase of new build, is nearing completion. The extensive refurbishment of the existing block also continuing satisfactorily.

The Site (description of site background, reason for development)
The Ridgeway hostel is located on the edge of a residential area on the outskirts of Royston.
The main aims of the redevelopment project are to maximise suitable family provision on the site and upgrade existing facilities.
The Site (Local amenities, Transport etc)
There is a play area on site and a recreation ground and playgrounds close by.
Royston town centre contains a variety of shops and there is a large supermarket on the outskirts of the town.
Buses run from Royston to: Hitchin, Bishops Stortford, Cambridge and Hertford.
Rail services run to Cambridge and London from the station in town.
Consultation (details of activities to be undertaken/completed)
Neighbouring residents received a consultation letter and copies of the proposed designs in June 2006. A press release was issued in the same month as was a news item on the NHH website.
Residents’ suggestions were incorporated into the designs.
A consultation report which summarised residents’ comments was included with the planning submission.
Local Authority nominations
This development will provide temporary accommodation for homeless families.
