Adaptations

This service aims to assist the elderly and people with disabilities to remain independent in their own homes. The majority of adaptations we provide centre upon access into or out of the home and the provision of safe and adequate bath and/or toilet facilities.

The service is provided in conjunction with Hertfordshire County Council’s team of Occupational Therapists who assess our tenants for the adaptation service.

Why do I need an assessment?

As North Hertfordshire Homes works within a set budget, we are unable to provide all the help people ask for.

We must give priority in as fair a way as possible to people who are in the greatest need of support.

This is why we are only able to offer help with access into and around your home and/or the provision of suitable toilet/bathing facilities. An eligibility criteria is in place in order to ensure that people with the most need receive our assistance.

If you would like to request an assessment from the Occupational Therapy team you should contact the Social Services Call Centre on

Grab rail service

If none of these options are feasible, we could look with you at re-housing to a more suitable property.

Our response to you

Once North Hertfordshire Homes has received a referral from Social Services, we will write to you within five working days to confirm the receipt of the referral and give you an indication on the waiting time for the works to be carried out.

We try to meet requests for help as quickly as we can. However, there is a high demand for this service. To treat each application in a fair and consistent manner we have introduced waiting lists, which are based upon the date of the referral we receive from Social Services.

What do we offer?
  • A quick and clear answer as to whether we can help or not
  • An assessment of your needs via Occupational Therapists at Social Services
