  • Groundwork Hertfordshire and North Hertfordshire Homes celebrate the Green Team -
    20 March 2010

Groundwork Hertfordshire and North Hertfordshire Homes marked the completion of their Green Team training initiative with a celebration on 19 March.  The 16 week project involved taking five young people who were not in education, employment or training (usually referred to as NEET) and providing them with work experience and a land based studies NVQ level one.

The event took place at NHH’s Hadleigh sheltered housing scheme in Letchworth, where the Team had landscaped the gardens and erected a beautiful pergola seating area.   Guests were able to see first hand the skills and professional finish the team had achieved. One resident said: “The Green Team boys have been out there in bitter cold and rain and they’ve all been working together and trying hard to get it done. I think the project is a great idea because it not only benefits us but it benefits them as well”

The aim of the project was to give the young people the skills they needed to get their first job in the environmental, landscaping or construction industries and both NHH and Green Team staff have been on hand to mentor and support with job applications.

Glenn Adam, manager of the Green Team said: “The Team has been a pleasure to work with and have got on so well amongst themselves – no bickering! The personal development and confidence that the course has instilled in all the participants is remarkable.”

Kevin Thompson, NHH Chief Executive said: “We were delighted to be involved with this project and have been extremely impressed with the commitment and quality of skills demonstrated by the Green Team members”

Groundwork Hertfordshire will be recruiting again in April for the next Green Team, this time based in Mill Green, Hatfield. If you are interested in taking part in a future 'Green Team', or would like more information, please contact our Youth & Employment Manager, Graeme Endersby on 01707 260129 or email: graeme.endersby@groundwork.org.uk
