  • New Flexicare Contract Signed -
    30 March 2010

Hertfordshire County Council has signed a contract with North Hertfordshire Homes to provide on-site care around the clock in three of the local housing association’s sheltered housing schemes.

This new approach to providing care for older people, called Flexicare housing, will enable more people to maintain their independence and will provide a practical alternative to residential care.

Tenants in Robert Humber House in Letchworth, Anderson House in Hitchin and Temple Court in Baldock will benefit from the new scheme.

Mark Lobban, Assistant Director of Community Commissioning at Hertfordshire County Council, said: “I am delighted with this agreement. Flexicare housing is a crucial part of our strategy to improve choice for older people.”

Kevin Thompson, Chief Executive of North Hertfordshire Homes, said: “This is a groundbreaking contract making us one of the first organisations in the county to undertake such a commitment ensuring people can stay in their own homes much longer."

The contract, which comes into effect this month, means that North Hertfordshire Homes will be providing home care and housing support for more than 120 people.
