  • Cockernhoe Memorial Hall Officially Opened -
    13 May 2010

Cockernhoe residents celebrated the official opening of the new Memorial Hall with staff from North Hertfordshire Homes, NHDC and local dignitaries.

The hall was built as part of a multi-million pound regeneration project which North Hertfordshire Homes have undertaken to improve the quality of their properties in the village and to provide much needed additional social rent homes for local people.

The new building replaced the old hall, which had been built by residents in 1956 to commemorate local people who had served their country in past wars.

“We were delighted to be able to build the new hall as part of our regeneration of Elm Tree Avenue as we understood what a loss it was to the whole community when the previous building was condemned. The whole project will breathe new life into parts of the village and confirms our commitment to supporting rural communities” said Kevin Thompson, Chief Executive of NHH.

Peter Underwood, Community Facilities Manager for North Herts District Council, said: "We are immensely grateful to North Hertfordshire Homes for building this superb new facility and we’re delighted to have been able to help further by awarding a Parish Challenge grant of £7,000 to contribute to equipment for the hall.
Improving villages throughout North Herts is one of our priorities and we’ve worked hard to see this project come to life, as has Offley Parish Council. This is an excellent example of what can be achieved when local people work together.”
