  • Old Post Office gets new lease of life -
    17 January 2011
A new lease of life has been brought to an historic building in the heart of Letchworth Garden City.

The Old Post Office on the Broadway has been renovated by Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation and leased to social housing provider, North Hertfordshire Homes as their local neighbourhood office.

Part of the building was originally erected in the 1920s with the east section added in the 1930s. By 1935 the building was a fully operational post office serving the people of Letchworth.

John Lewis, Chief Executive, Heritage Foundation said “We have taken care to retain and enhance the original features of this landmark within the Town Centre, while making it suitable for today’s business needs”.

Kevin Thompson, North Hertfordshire Homes Chief Executive said, “We’ve moved from Station Road to a new office with an improved reception area and additional facilities for tenants. We are delighted to contribute to the preservation and rejuvenation of a building with such significant history in Letchworth and our local neighbourhood team looks forward to welcoming all visitors”.
