22 February 2011
North Hertfordshire Homes is pleased to confirm that development of new homes on Hill End Lane, St Albans will commence at the end of March.
The small development of quality homes has been planned in partnership with St Albans District Council and will provide a mix of housing suitable for local needs. The land is currently occupied by mobile homes that are used for temporary and emergency accommodation.
Karen Dragovic, Head of Housing at St Albans City and District Council commented; “I am delighted that this development is now progressing as it will help meet a range of housing needs in the District and also provide some good quality temporary accommodation.”
The new development will have 23, one and two bedroom flats in small blocks for temporary accommodation; three homes for social rent and four homes for shared ownership on a part buy-part rent basis.
The homes will be built to Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes so will meet exacting standards for thermal efficiency, water recycling and energy consumption.
Kevin Thompson, Chief Executive of North Hertfordshire Homes said, “We are proud to build new ‘Lifetime Homes’ for St Albans. As well as meeting the sustainability code, they will also meet an optional standard for spaciousness and easy conversion as lifestyles change, for example, room for growing families or independent living in later years.”
The homes which will be available from autumn next year will be supplied with kitchen appliances and carpets to help the moving-in experience easier for new residents.
