- Local people celebrate regional recognition -
29 March 2011
Two local residents and a Hertfordshire joint-venture have each been short listed at the regional final of a national award.
Rob Medland, Mark Webb and the Groundwork’s Green Team in partnership with North Hertfordshire Homes (NHH) will be attending the Tenant Participation Advisory Service Awards luncheon in Birmingham on Friday (1 April).
The Awards share best practice across communities and recognise social housing tenants’ efforts to improve other people’s lives. Rob, 18, has been short listed for Young Tenant of the Year for resisting peer pressure to ‘just do nothing’. He sought out and volunteered for a number of local environmental projects that included clearing an elderly man’s back garden so the tenant could get outside, laid new paving in a deprived area of local shops and many tasks to improve communal areas across north Hertfordshire.
Mark Webb has been short listed for Tenant of the Year in recognition of his involvement in three tenant working groups. He contributes his energy to making tenant services better for all residents through activity such as mystery shopping and estate inspections. His warmth and sincerity engages people of all backgrounds and makes him an ideal tenant ambassador.
The Green Team partnership gives young tenants not in employment, education or training, a chance to learn new skills and qualify for an NVQ in Land Based Studies while improving local neighbourhoods. The partnership with NHH was the first to build on Groundwork’s established, successful community initiative and tailor it for social housing tenants.
Regional winners will go through to the national final being held in London later in the year.
