- Go ON - Give an hour -
15 November 2011

A brave Hertfordshire finance team who are usually chained to their desks have made a daring escape - to help internet beginners get on-line.
The team of ten digital champions are offering their skills as part of the nationwide Spend an hour campaign that’s encouraging people to use the internet for the first time.
There are more than 8 million people in the UK who don’t use computers or the internet, and they could be missing out on all sorts of opportunities and benefits as a result.
One of the team, Nathan Mallows, Director of Finance at North Hertfordshire Homes said “Whether you want to follow your hobbies, keep in touch with family and friends or just save time and money doing everyday things, the internet can help everyone.
“My 62 year old Mum is a brilliant example of what you can do on-line. She’s full of energy but rheumatoid arthritis means she’s not great on her feet. But with the internet, she keeps in touch with our family in Holland, she sends me price comparisons showing she gets the latest deals, and she does her shopping on line - her grandchildren love it when a parcel arrives direct from the shop!”
To see some of the things you could do on-line, get a friend with a computer to show you the Go On website at www.go-on.co.uk or spend an hour this week at one of North Hertfordshire Homes’ neighbourhood offices where one of the escapees will be on hand to show you how. Sessions need to be pre-booked, so drop in or ring the office to book.
