- Introducing Hertfordshire's Five Gold Rings -
16 December 2011
Year 11 students from the Purcell School for Young Musicians have delighted flexicare scheme residents and guests at Temple Court in Baldock with an array of instrumentals and carols arranged by the students themselves.
The musical celebration marked the first of many events envisaged as part of Hertfordshire’s Five Gold Rings project which will bring together key housing association partners to create sustainable vocal and instrumental opportunities for local communities.
Flexicare scheme residents from Letchworth and Hitchin were transported to Baldock and treated to the talents of the young orchestra. They also joined them in singing traditional carols before the students mingled with residents during the interlude.
Alison Cox, The Purcell School’s 2012 Ambassador said “Hertfordshire’s Host County status and the Olympic Torch route have provided us with a wonderful opportunity to add an extra cultural aspect to the Olympic Games”.
The project is jointly led by Nick Denham, Head of Participation and Inclusion at Hertfordshire Music Service. He said “By working in partnership with local schools and housing associations we can bring together different communities and help Hertfordshire’s Music Service to reach more people. We are very pleased that North Hertfordshire Homes enabled this event to happen”.
Kevin Thompson, North Hertfordshire Homes chief executive said “Our Temple Court scheme was perfectly suited to this musical extravaganza, as the atrium created a splendid glass balcony effect. Strengthening communities through music is a brilliant idea and we have plans to support future Hertfordshire Five Gold Rings events”.
Hertfordshire’s Music Service and The Purcell School for Young Musicians are able to supply young music leaders, helpers, instruments and training for schools, musical groups, choirs, soloists, bands, young people, families and senior citizens who’d like to be involved with Hertfordshire’s Five Gold Rings.
