  • Youngsters Help Plant for the Future -
    26 April 2007
An uninspiring square of grass in the middle of the Westmill housing estate has been miraculously transformed thanks to the hard work and enthusiasm of local youngsters and Groundwork Hertfordshire.

The group aged between 8 to19 were happy to help with the project, funded by North Hertfordshire Homes, to plant trees around the crescent.

Groundwork is a well known environmental regeneration charity and runs regular activity programmes in the area involving young people in helping regenerate and sustain their local environment. And this was the inspiration that motivated two of NHH’s neighbourhood officers, Paula Godfrey and Bob Hook to pool their budgets and put forward the idea.

“We’ve worked closely with Groundwork before in dealing with anti social behaviour and thought this would be an ideal way to engage with local young people and a great opportunity to improve the area for everyone” says Bob Hook, NHH Neighbourhood Officer.

Groundwork planned the design and after two days of hard work the transformation was complete, and local residents are delighted.
