The Green Team is a 16 week training programme facilitated by North Hertfordshire Homes and Groundwork Hertfordshire aimed at 16 – 24 year olds who are not in education, employment or training (NEET).  This is a rising group of individuals who are traditionally hard to reach and in many cases remain unemployed for the majority of their lives.

The programme provides skill based training for five young people identified as being NEET and offers them the opportunity to learn ‘on the job’ as well as apply for potential employment with assistance.  The training is carried out on the sites of NHH proposed projects that are in need of improvement for the residents that live there.

The programme provides appropriate training on literacy and numeracy skill as well as assistance in putting together a CV and filling in application forms. Applicants are enrolled at college and attend training there.  They learn about the professional working environment and at the end of the programme the young people receive a City and Guilds level one qualification in land based studies as well as a basic first aid certificate and a CSCS card.

On the recently completed project by North Hertfordshire Homes of the five people enrolled on the course all completed it.  Twelve NHH sites had work carried out including clearance of vulnerable peoples gardens, work to pave and turf flat block communal areas plus building a communal garden in a sheltered scheme.
