Anti-Social Behaviour

Respect Agenda and The Government Drive

This drive aims to ensure that local agencies tackle unacceptable behaviour and its causes to improve the quality of life for all residents – particularly those in the most disadvantaged communities. You can download a copy our Respect leaflet here.

Unacceptable behaviour can take many forms; from playing loud music in the early hours of the morning, graffiti, offensive and threatening remarks to dumping rubbish, harassment and intimidation.  This more serious behaviour ruins lives and it cannot continue unchallenged.

There is a range of factors which are strongly associated with anti social behaviour by individuals, such as:

Parenting – poor parenting, weak relationships and an ongoing cycle of anti social behaviour from the parent to the child.

School – truancy and exclusion, schools where poor behaviour is left unchallenged.

Community factors – deprived areas where there is disorder or neglect and peer pressure to get involved with anti-social behaviour.

Individual factors – drug and alcohol misuse and early involvement in anti-social behaviour.

However, progress has been made already on tackling anti-social behaviour in the form of:

  • Acceptable Behaviour Contracts
  • Penalty Notices for Disorder
  • Dispersal Order
  • Anti-Social Behaviour Orders

While this progress is encouraging, there is a need to ensure that the correct approach is taken nationally so that no matter where you live or who you are, you should not be on the receiving end of anti-social behaviour without the authorities knowing how and when to intervene.

What to do if you are experiencing anti-social behaviour

We take any form of anti-social behaviour very seriously. If you are the victim of nuisance or anti-social behaviour you should contact your Neighbourhood Office to report the problem. All our Neighbourhood Officers are trained in dealing with these situations and will be happy to help.

Alternatively, you can also report the problem online, via our Anti-Social Behaviour Report Form or call our ASB reporting hotline on 01462 705499.
