How To Become A Tenant
How To Become A Tenant in North Hertfordshire
The Common Housing Register
One of the aims of North Hertfordshire Homes (NHH) is to provide affordable housing to those that need it. We do this by working in partnership with North Hertfordshire District Council (NHDC) and other Registered Social Landlords (RSLs), providing affordable and suitable accommodation to meet the needsof local people.
By working closely with Howard Cottage Housing Association (HCHA) and the local council (NHDC), we formed North Hertfordshire Housing Partnership (NHHP) and successfully introduced a common housing register in 2005. This means that applicants have access to housing across the district by the completion of one application form.
To further improve the service to applicants, the NHHP launched a new Common Housing Allocations Policy in July 2009. This means that applicants are now only assessed once under the same criteria regardless of who they apply to.

Making an application
To apply for housing within North Hertfordshire, you need to complete a common housing register form. Common Housing Register application forms and guidance on how to complete them are available from:
Alternatively click here to apply online or download a copy of the application form here
Change of address or circumstances
Once you have registered on the housing register, it is your responsibility to notify North Herts Housing Partnership of any change in your circumstances (e.g. if you have a baby, you change your job, you move house etc.)
If you change your address you will need to complete a new housing application form with details of your new property. You cannot register a change of address online at the moment. Please download the form (above), complete it with the change of address details, and send it to wherever you originally applied to join the housing register (NHH, NHDC or Howard Cottage)
What if I want to live outside of North Hertfordshire?
The Common Housing Register only works within the boundaries of North Hertfordshire so if you want to apply for one of our homes in Stevenage, St Albans or Central Bedfordshire you’ll need to contact the local council for details. Please follow the links below.
