How do I apply?
Our aim at North Hertfordshire Homes is to promote independence for older people within our Sheltered Housing schemes, by providing a safe and secure environment, with support, so that customers of all backgrounds can fulfil their aspirations and maximise their choices.
As one of the largest providers of high quality sheltered housing within North Hertfordshire, we have Scheme Managers working in every supported housing unit. We also have an office based team of area managers and administration support to ensure the service runs smooth and efficiently.
What is Sheltered Housing?
Our Sheltered Housing schemes are specifically for people who are 55 years or older who have a support need. Our aim is to promote independent living for older people by providing the added sense of security and peace of mind by having extra support on hand if needed.
What Types Of Properties Are Available?
We offer a variety of homes within each housing scheme including a selection of one and two bedroom flats and bungalows grouped together. Each property is self contained with its own kitchen, bathroom, lounge, and bedroom areas.
Each property is fitted with a pull cord alarm system which can be activated by the tenant, to alert the Scheme Manager or the call centre. We also operate an emergency support service during the evenings. Tenants can call for emergency help via the intercom system 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
General Services And Facilities
Most schemes have communal rooms such as lounge/dining room, kitchen, laundry, disabled bathroom, hairdressing and guest room facilities. Communal areas are also fitted with emergency alarm systems and most schemes have lifts or stair lifts. Many schemes have landscaped gardens with garden furniture providing relaxing out door spaces for tenants to use.
The Scheme Manager
Each scheme has a Scheme Manager who is responsible for the day-to-day running of the development, providing support, and emergency assistance for all tenants. They are also on hand to liaise with agencies and other services on tenant's behalf and can assist with the organisation and promotion of social activities.
The Scheme Managers will also assist tenants in accessing care and welfare services, but cannot provide personal care services themselves. Many tenants do receive personal care from care teams provided through Adult Care Services, other professionals or from family and friends.
Tenants have the choice of having a regular call by the Scheme Manager, either via the intercom system or by calling at the property to make sure they are well, giving advice and assistance as necessary.
